Let’s be honest. How many times have you come home from vacation with hundreds of beautiful photos… but you’re not in any of them?
This summer, that changes.
Whether you’re a solo traveler, parent, or adventurer, these tips will help you take stunning vacation photos with you in the frame. Create memories you’re proud to be part of.
1. Pack the Right Tripod
My favorite? The MagSafe Trilight Tripod. It uses magnets (no clamps!), sets up in seconds, and folds down small enough to fit in your purse or glove box.
Pro Tip: Windy day? Wrap a 10-lb ankle weight (Target sells great ones) around the base of your tripod. Instant stability!

2. Go Hands-Free the Smart Way
You can use the tripod’s Bluetooth remote or set a timer… but my top hack is enabling voice command on your phone.
It’s easy to set up and lets you say things like “photo” or “video” without scrambling into place.

3. Master the Light
Shooting in full sun? On iPhones, tap the exposure icon (top left, second from the left), then use the +/- slider to lower brightness.
This helps avoid washed-out highlights and gives your photos a beautiful, balanced look.

4. Take More Than You Think You Need
Don’t stop at one shot. Take a burst of photos, move around, laugh, and let it be real. You’ll find the magic in the in-between moments.
Pro tip: candid > posed, always.
5. Show Up in the Story
Your kids, partner, or future self won’t care if your hair’s a mess or your shirt is wrinkled. They’ll care that you were there.
Be in the photo. Laugh. Splash. Hug. Let the memory be about you being fully present.
