Egg Hunts, Cotton Candy, and Community Magic: Easter Eggstravaganza 2025

There are a few traditions I look forward to every spring. Longer days, blooming flowers, and of course, the Star Chamber of Commerce Easter Eggstravaganza.

I’ve had the joy of volunteering as the event photographer for several years now, and every time, it feels like a small-town fairytale brought to life (with just a little more sugar and a lot more eggs).

This year’s event was one for the books. Over 25 local businesses came together to create a day packed with games, laughter, and enough activities to keep even the most energetic toddlers thoroughly entertained. From bounce houses to bean bag tosses, there was something for every kid, and every kid at heart.

And the food? Oh, don’t get me started. Corn dogs, pizza cones (yes, that’s a thing and yes, they’re amazing), and Mexican street food that had lines snaking across the parking lot. Cotton candy flew through the air like pastel confetti, sticking to fingers, faces, and a few camera lenses (don’t worry, I got it cleaned off… eventually).

Luna, our beloved K9 sheriff, made a special appearance and posed like the celebrity she is. And then came the grand finale; the egg hunt.

The field was covered in a rainbow of pastel plastic eggs thanks to weeks of community donations. The hunt was divided by age group, including a special abilities section to ensure everyone got in on the fun.

And yes, there was a golden ticket. One lucky child found it and walked away with bragging rights until next year.

The Easter Bunny himself made a guest appearance, hopping to take photos with the kids (and a few enthusiastic adults).

This year was extra special for me—we had our very first booth, complete with a festive Easter-themed photo setup. Families jumped in for portraits, and we handed out over 400 goodie bags filled with treats and tiny surprises. Watching the smiles (and sugar highs) was the best reward.

I can’t say enough about the heart of this community. Every year, Star comes together to create something magical for its families, and I feel so lucky to be a small part of it behind the lens. The laughter, the colors, the togetherness. It’s the kind of day that makes you believe in the power of community (and also question how much sugar one child can consume in a single afternoon).

Already counting down the days ‘til next year.
